TEXT MESSAGING CAPABILITY COMING TO WEST VALLEY

Hello West Valley Parents and Guardians,
We are adding text messaging capability to SchoolMessenger, the system we use now for emergency phone calls and emails. SchoolMessenger will be configured to pull your cell phone number from Skyward and send text messages to those recipients that agree to receive them.
In order to receive text messages, we encourage you to confirm you have an accurate cell phone number in your Skyward account.  Please log in to your Skyward account, click on Skylert from the left menu and add your cell phone number or verify the number listed is correct.  (Instructions are attached.)
Once we launch this feature, you will get a text message from SchoolMessenger asking you if you would like to opt in for text communication.
SchoolMessenger does not charge recipients for the text messages that they receive; however, wireless providers may charge for individual text messages, depending on the plan associated with the wireless device. Please consult your carrier if you are uncertain.
SchoolMessenger is compliant with the Student Privacy Pledge® so you can rest assured your information is safe and will never be given or sold to anyone. SchoolMessenger uses a true SMS protocol developed by the telecommunications industry specifically for mass text messaging. This is different than sending individual text messages between two phones (mobile-to-mobile) or from email-to-text (SMTP). Referred to as “short code” texting, this method is highly reliable and fast because it is strictly regulated by the wireless carriers themselves and allows only approved providers direct connectivity to the wireless carrier networks.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to verify your cell phone number in Skyward and opting-in to receive text messages as described above.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, concerns and/or comments.
